Sleep Facts

#1:  People can take cat naps with their eyes open without them even knowing it.

#2:  Close medical supervision is the only way to tell if someone is really asleep or awake.

#3:  If it takes you less than 5 minutes to fall asleep at night you are sleep deprived.

#4: It should take between 10 and 15 minutes to fall asleep at night. That means you’re tired but not exhausted.

#5: New parents lose 400 to 750 hours of sleep the first year.

#6:  No one knows if other species dream.

#7:  Certain types of eye movements correspond to specific movements in REM sleep.

#8: It seems that at least part of the REM dreaming process is equivalent to watching a movie.

#9: We still don’t know the purpose of dreams. They may not serve any purpose but be an amalgamation of sleep and consciousness.

#10: However, there are some scientists that believe dreaming is the process of memories being stored in our brain.

#11: The longest a person has gone without sleep has been reported to be 18 days, 21 hours, and 40 minutes resulting in the following symptoms: lapses in memory and concentration, slurred speech, blurred vision, hallucinations, and paranoia.

#12: Having your sleep disturbed by young children can result in insomnia later in life.
