Do you often feel exhausted? If you aren’t sleeping well, you can have trouble staying alert during the day. You could also be more likely to develop a sleep disorder. However, you can try a few steps to improve your sleep from home. If this fails to address the issue, then consider contacting your dentist to learn more about sleep apnea.
Ways to Improve Your Sleep
- Avoid caffeine: Drinking caffeine products before bed, such as soda, or coffee, can lead to poor sleep. For a good night’s rest, we recommend sticking with water. While some people swear by chamomile tea, there is little evidence that it works outside of a placebo effect. However, if that placebo effect works for you, then by all means.
- Don’t drink alcohol before bed: While alcohol may make you feel sleepy initially, you are more likely to wake up in the night. This is because alcohol can make reaching the REM stage of sleep very difficult.
- Calm down before bed: Don’t perform strenuous exercise right before bed, or eat a big meal. Both activities can inhibit rest. In the two to four hours before bed, try to stay calm and relaxed. Doing so will help you fall asleep quicker and easier.
- Maintain a good sleep schedule: You should be going to bed at the same times and then waking up at the same times daily, regardless of weekends and holidays. Maintaining a schedule can not only help you rest better, but is also a way of reducing the severity of sleep apnea.
- Make your bedroom a place for sleep: Make sure your bedroom is the perfect environment for sleep! We suggest keeping the room dark and cool. You should remove any screens, such as TVs, computers, or phones.
