Sleep Disorders: 2 Questions To Ask Before Your Head Hits The Pillow

When you’re treating a sleep disorder like sleep apnea, you want to try to make things as easy as possible, so you see your solutions as a streamlined part of your daily experience. Of course, it may take just a bit of getting used to as you begin but soon, it will just feel like you’re operating on autopilot as you guide yourself toward better sleep. To help you get to this point and to protect your nightly rest, our Livonia, MI team encourages you to take time consider very helpful pre-bed questions to ask yourself well before your head hits the pillow!

#1: Am I Wearing My Treatment?

It seems simple but you would be surprised by how often we hear that patients forget to wear their sleep apnea treatment! While this is probably not something you would ever do, of course, we still like to offer the reminder just in case. If you really want your sleep disorder to improve, no matter what it is, check in with yourself before you are all snuggly and cozy in bed. Ask yourself: Have I put my treatment into my mouth yet? If not, don’t try to convince yourself you’ll just get into bed for a few minutes and then get up. Chances are good you won’t!

#2: Is Everything Turned Off?

What is it that you might have left on somewhere in your house that will cause you to have to get up? What is it that you left on that you’ve been trying to leave off because it might interrupt your sleep apnea treatment or treatment for another sleep disorder? Let us help you out here as we guide you with some ideas:

  • Did you forget to turn the lights off in the house? Do it before your head hits the pillow, so you can relax and fall asleep!
  • Did you remember to turn off the bathroom light or is going to drive you crazy all night, preventing you from every fully falling asleep?
  • Did you remember to turn off the television and any other distraction that might make sleep more difficult? Do so!
