Preparing For Spring: Things To Consider For Sleep Disorders

As winter winds down (according to the Groundhog, anyway!), we encourage you to think about what this might mean for you if you are dealing with a sleep disorder. Maybe you are someone who has already come in for care and you’re using your sleep apnea treatment at home. Perhaps this is certainly on your radar but as for actually coming in to meet with our Livonia, MI team? Well, it hasn’t happened yet. Wherever you are in your sleep issue journey, we remind you that good sleep is always an option and that it just might be a good idea to get ready ahead of time for what spring may bring!

Spring Allergies Are Coming!

If you are someone who deals with spring allergies, hay fever, etc., then you already know pollen will lead to issues for your airways. You know, too, that if you’re suffering from a sleep disorder like sleep apnea or severe snoring, it has to do with partial or full obstruction of airways. So, adding the potential for additional air passage blocks is not to your advantage. We have two very important suggestions as a result:

  • If you have not yet begun with treatment for a sleep disorder from our practice, the time to get started is right now, before you end up with any type of upper respiratory inflammation!
  • Whether or not you have begun with care like sleep apnea treatment, we encourage you to plan ahead for seasonal allergies and to take any steps you need to combat them before they have the chance to take their toll. Need to see a doctor or an allergist? Make that appointment soon!

A Spring Cleaning Is Worth The Effort

You might not feel super excited about spring cleaning but if you want to keep your airways open, free of inflammation, and you’d also like to sleep through the night, it may be a very good idea. In fact, it’s always a good idea to do your best to limit dust, dust mites, etc. that can aggravate airways and contribute to problems for upper airways. Of course, this is particularly true for allergy sufferers. Wash your linens, clean your floors, dust your knick knacks, put scented or other bothersome things out of reach, and more, to help you as you treat your sleep disorder.

If You Haven’t Started Treatment, Start Soon

Did we mention that if you haven’t begun sleep disorder treatment that the sooner the better? Yes, well, we say it a lot because when you regain your sleep, you regain your energy and you avoid health risks that can come with interrupted sleep! We look forward to seeing you soon.
